Umang Island Ecotourism

Umang Island not only offers the charm and beauty of the sea water tourism, but also demonstrates that environmental preservation efforts merged into a tourism package.

We wanted a vacation to a remote island, which is usually a vision of a quiet area, exotic, and sand land bordering the sea. The image was not completely missed when I was with 14 other media crews arrived at Umang Island which is in the province of Banten, Friday (6 / 11) last week.

Umang Island is a private island when it was pretty "quiet". Not many tourists or travelers who visited there in this transition season. The recent earthquake issues rampant in circulation, seem to take affect these conditions. Moreover berpelesir to the coast, well ... lest there'll be a tsunami.

But for us, the issue of an earthquake or a tsunami is not a hindrance. We were still excited waiting 15 departures to the island which has an area of five hectares it. Mileage 183 km from Jakarta can we exceeded for 4.5 hours, plus a five-minute trip using motor boats to cross from the District the Well, Pandeglang, to the island in question.

And, we arrived at Pulau Umang. The image of a lonely desert island and could not miss 100 percent. Moreover eksotismenya, really similar to my dream. The sound waves, clear sea water and soft sand imaging nan island calm conditions and far from pollution.

"Welcome to Umang Island!" exclaimed a staff Umang Island Resort, just after my colleagues and set foot on the island located in the Sunda Strait waters.

In terms of location, Pulau Umang located in a bay which "protected" by the Cape Lesung in the north, Panaitan Island in the west, and south of Ujung Kulon. Because the location of the "hidden" reason, waves on the shore of this island is not too large. Peace of water almost like a lake.

Doing for the Environment

Just as when a trip to another island, on the island we were treated to Umang range of activities that "smell" the ocean. Snorkeling, banana boat riding, beach or playing sports are some of the activities offered manager Umang Island.

"If it was just staying on the island, the experience gained will not be too memorable. Hence, we create programs or packages of water and outbound tours for visitors Umang Island," said President Director Pulau Umang Resort & Spa Christian PB Halim.

I and the group may be among the first to have the opportunity to enjoy 3-day package tours offered 2 nights Umang Island manager. Incidentally, this month, the latest tour packages Umang Island is entitled "Escape, Exploring Umang" starting launched. Activities included in this tour package include outbound fun, fishing competition, a barbecue party, picnic lunch, take a trip to the Oar Island is a "neighbor" Umang Island, ride banana boats, rubber boats, and snorkeling.

On the outbound fun activities, we were invited to build agility and compactness "work" in a team. Outbound was conducted at Legon Hill, which is 42 meters above sea level. Distance hill from Umang Island is not so far, only about 500 of the meter. We have to reach on foot, after crossing from the island using the boat motor.

Ice breaking, 3 high ropes and flying fox is a part of the game we had to do in outbound ini.Bagi a fear of heights like me, the game hosted by Sir Peter's taste can be therapeutic. Sway due to wind that we feel in the height of the challenge must be made mandatory through. Especially when it came time I had to play flying fox which has a distance of 200 meters, fear and nervous to be soon defeated. If not, I will not be able to return to the island, because this game is a "door" for entry into a motor boat which then took us "home" to Umang Island.

On the Mount Legon, usually the traveler will be involved in the greening program titled "Let's Plant One Million Trees" which is the initiative of former Tourism Minister Marzuki Usman. This activity, says Christian PB Halim, organized through a container named Ujung Kulon Conservation Society (UCS), which stood since 2005.

"It is our commitment to continuous program of conservation. So far, we always use natural, as we do to nature is still very low. Hence, Umang Island agenda of this activity. Conservation activities in a fun packed," said Christian , who also became one of the UCS board.

There is an area of 40 hectares more prepared various types of crops planted on the island and surrounding Umang. Most of the land was located on three hills, which are all owned by Umang Island manager.

"We're encouraging farmers around the District wells to grow crops here. In addition to perennials, we also planted fruit trees such as mango, guava, and durian," added 52-year-old man was.

Umang Island alone, Christian and his team have planted 20 trees of mango, and all grow well. In fact, Umang is a sandy island that is generally difficult to overgrown plants, except the coastal vegetation type.
