Surabaya (ANTARA News) - Ten November Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya, Monday, launching two fuel-efficient cars of oil (BBM) which is called "Wind Sweep 1" and "Sweep the Wind 2." .

The launch marked the running test was witnessed by the President Director of PT Shell Indonesia, Darwin Silalahi, because the two cars will participate in international competition "Shell Eco-Marathon (SEM) Asia 2010" at the Sepang Circuit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 8-10 Juli .

"Wind Sweep 1" is a futuristic car prototypes like Go Karting with the target to one liter of fuel mileage 1000 miles, "said team manager Winds Sweep 1, M. Agus Setiawan.

Meanwhile, the car "Sweep Wind 2" is an urban car concept vehicles like four-wheeled car that conventional, but it contains only 1-2 passengers with a target of one liter of fuel for 300 kilometers distance.

"Target Sweep 1 was champion wind, but wind Sweep targets are produced for 2 cars in the future 25-30 years," said Department of Mechanical Engineering student at the Faculty of Industrial Technology (FTI) ITS Surabaya it.

According to him, the car was designed ITS own students who "studied" the alumni of ITS and the "boss" ship manufacturing company PT Maroline Maju Utama.

"There are 14 students in 2005 and 2006 class who worked hard to design and create both types of cars that, when studied for a week to ship manufacturing companies in Kenjeran, Surabaya was. We started a plan in August 2009," he explained.

However, he said, his department learned of a number of champions in the race fuel-efficient cars in Europe at the international level that have been going on since 25 years ago, the concept or framework monoqouce car and the body of the car in a series.

"It was all done their own students from design, looking for raw materials, welding, do pembubutan, and so on until the finish," he said explained.

Asked excess car "Sweep the wind", he admitted making monoqouce concept car was light, then the engine injection system (EFI) to make cars fuel efficient and environmentally friendly compared to a carburetor system (spray systems).

"The weight of the car also ranges with 35-40 kilograms of raw materials for the fiberglass body, while the frame using poly-euretane (solid foam)," he said adding.

With that concept, ITS team confident of winning the competition level SEM Asia held the first time, let alone the student experience designing ITS and motorcycle fuel-efficient cars is a valuable capital for maximum speed race car 25 miles per hour.
